This is exactly what I was just about to do, and so I did a quick Google to see which sets (# of blocks) I needed to get to be able to make Mario, for example.
Do you have any advice about which sets are best for the money, for the purposes of making figures like these?
All sets are very nice. I currently have the 550 piece and 1200 piece sets. If you're just getting into PixelBlocks, I'd recommend getting the 1200 piece set, just because it has 12 different colors as opposed to the 550 piece set's 8.
